What Is a Day Doula?

From assisting with naps to meal prepping, our day doulas are there to help you manage the daily tasks that can feel overwhelming during those early days postpartum.

In short, a day doula is an extra set of hands with professional experience (and the credentials to prove it!) whose job is to support the entire family during this transition into parenthood. A day doula can provide a tremendous weight off your shoulders during a time that can be stressful for everyone in the family, especially mom.

Our day doulas can help you with many everyday tasks including assistance with naps, showers, meal prepping, laundry, cleaning bottles, cleaning the baby’s area, among many more tasks. We can also help you organize the baby’s room to make it more efficient and even straighten up the kitchen.

Moreover, we can assist you with:

  • Your first-time trips out with the baby
  • Accompany and assist you during doctor visits
  • Provide you with new parent education and practical support

By having someone with professional expertise by your side supporting you in this way, you can enjoy more peace of mind and feel relaxed as you navigate the exciting and challenging journey of parenthood.

Benefits of a Daytime Doula

Relaxed & Confident

Parents can relax knowing their baby is well taken care of, allowing them to prioritize their own self-care and bonding with their newborn.

Proper Recovery

Our daytime support allows mothers to rest and focus on their postpartum recovery, knowing that our doulas will handle the daytime tasks with expertise and care.

New Parent Support

Assistance with newborn care, including bathing, swaddling, addressing any challenges with feeding, and ensuring that parents have expert guidance and support.

Non-Judgmental Support

We offer a non-judgmental environment, respecting the decisions made by parents, allowing them to feel empowered and confident in their parenting choices.

Is a day doula right for you?

It can be confusing trying to figure out the difference between day doulas, night doulas, and live-in doulas.

The most obvious difference is the time at which you receive your support. Day doulas help during the day and focus on daytime tasks with the entire family, while night doulas primarily support the baby during the nighttime allowing the parents to sleep. Live-in doulas (also called “24 hour doulas”) are there both during day and night time, and take on the tasks of both the day doula and night doula.

Generally speaking, a day doula is right for you if:

  • Mom needs rest! No matter if mom had a c-section or a relatively uncomplicated birth, she will need rest and relaxation to heal properly
  • You need assistance with naps, showers, feeding, or any other daily tasks related to your baby or parenting
  • You’re stressed or worried about the new responsibilities that come with parenthood (it’s normal, don’t worry!) and could use an extra set of hands around the house

Your Experience With a Day Doula

A sneak peek into the typical experience with a daytime doula

From the moment we arrive in your home, we begin assessing your needs and creating a customized action plan. By observing your baby at home in its natural environment, we can offer invaluable tips to make parenting easier for you.

Our expertise extends to establishing a healthy daytime routine that eventually leads to a good night routine. And beyond practical assistance, we also provide a compassionate ear for your parenting joys and challenges.

With a day doula by your side, you can confidently embark on your parenting journey with ease.

Our Role as Your Daytime Doula

A day doula’s role is:
  • To provide non-judgmental support to the entire family so each member feels listened to, supported, and cared for
  • To provide expertise and guidance as needed so parents can make their own parenthood decisions
  • To listen and offer suggestions when needed, and be a comfort to parents who need someone to talk to
  • To assist the parents with creating a healthy and predictable daily routine for everyone in the family
  • To help ease you into parenthood and provide you with the confidence needed to move forward with your happy family
A day doula’s role is not:
  • To replace your partner or family members
  • To judge you and your family, force our values, or teach you the “best way” to parent (because there is no best way! The “best way” is the way that works best for your individual family)
